Ignatian Year The global Society of Jesus celebrates an Ignatian Year from 20 May 2021, the 500th anniversary of the conversion of St Ignatius Loyola, until 31 July 2022, the 400th anniversary of the canonisation of St Ignatius, St Francis Xavier, St Teresa of Jesus, St Philip Neri, and St Isidore Labrador. When Ignatius was struck by a cannonball at the Battle of Pamplona, it led him to question what he really wanted: a life of riches or poverty. Thus began his transformation as Iñigo the Soldier to Ignatius the Pilgrim. His insights gained from deep prayer, fasting, and penance became what we now know as the Spiritual Exercises, the foundation of Ignatian Spirituality. To see all things new in Christ The Ignatian Year is not only a commemoration of an important event in the life of the founder of the Society of Jesus, it is also for us today an invitation to allow the Lord to work on our conversion. How might we be transformed to grow in our relationship with God, with others, and with creation? The whole year will be guided by the Universal Apostolic Preferences. Living them in our life- mission means ongoing conversion on a personal, community, and institutional levels. We ask for the grace to be renewed by the Lord.
